Popular Magazine “Allure”
Sacramento, California - Allure magazine is a beauty authority that highlights: fashion, new beauty products and the latest developments in cosmetic plastic surgery.
Recently, Allure let their readers know that the American Society of Plastic Surgeons released their statistics for cosmetic procedures for 2015. As we reported in our blog last month, it was noted that breast reduction remains a very popular procedure, but for the first time, breast reduction for men reflected 40% of the total number of breast reduction procedures performed!
Allure believes that reality shows and social media have been responsible for erasing the stigma of men seeking any type of cosmetic procedure and in particular male breast reduction. Women have been seeking breast reduction surgery for decades to obtain relief from neck, and back pain. However, Allure points out that men seek breast reduction surgery more for aesthetic purposes due to the humiliation female type breasts cause men.
Miguel Delgado, M.D. states that not all gynecomastia cases are the same, the amount of male breast development can vary widely. For example, men with a mild case who work out a lot want a more toned look with the pecs more apparent and not obscured by a layer of fat and/or breast tissue. Men with moderate to severe male breasts are seeking to have a more normal chest so that they have the freedom to go shirtless.
Additionally, Allure notes that men tend to schedule gynecomastia surgery since it does not require a lengthy recovery time. Also, their post-operative compression vest which is worn for 6 weeks is easily hidden under their shirt.
