National Gynecomastia Statistic for Surgery

Statistics for 2015 Reported by American Society of Plastic Surgeons

The most prestigious society for cosmetic surgeons is the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS). Every February or March the ASPS reports the statistics for the previous year. The numbers for 2015 were recently released. The ASPS have more than 7,000 members that are all Board Certified in Plastic Surgery.

It is interesting to note that almost every year the amount of surgeries and non-invasive procedures show an increase, and 2015 was no different with an increase of 2% overall with 15.9 million performed.

Breast reduction surgery was at an all-time high at 68,106. Of that number, 27,456 were for male breast reduction which reflects a 5% increase from the previous year.

Miguel Delgado, MD. a gynecomastia specialist for Sacramento and all of the San Francisco Bay Area notes that he has seen an increase in his male breast reduction cases. Dr. Delgado believes the increase is due to men feeling more comfortable with cosmetic surgery than ever before. There is no longer a stigma related to men having cosmetic surgery. Many have a combination of other procedures with their male breast reduction, such as; liposuction of the abdomen and love handles, or even a different area of the body such as a rhinoplasty.

Combining surgical procedures is frequently done by men in order to save time and money and then only one time for healing.
